A Look Inside American Service Pets

A note from our editor:

It wasn’t long ago I had the privilege to meet one of our American Service Pet customers, *Sarah. I had a lot in common with Sarah, the biggest was that we had both experienced a tremendous loss in our life.

By getting the opportunity to speak with Sarah, we were able to bond, laugh and even cry together. Sarah is just one of those gals who is easy to talk to, but hard to read. What I mean by that is, I can tell she is a true “people pleaser.” She filled the room up with so much light and joy, but I knew there was more behind her contagious smile…

Sarah’s school career was similar to my own. She was involved in a sport, hers being tennis and loved the social aspect of school. Okay, okay so subjects weren’t our thing – but hey, we managed to graduate with a good GPA!

For Sarah, graduating with even an “okay” GPA is impressive. She went through the hardship of losing her mom to cancer her Senior year of high school. As soon as she began telling me the story, my entire body filled with sadness for her. Although my story is a little different, the feeling of losing a parent at such a young age never goes away – it’s something we continue to live with each and every day.

Working through the loss was difficult for Sarah but, she tried her best to continue to live life positively, as best she could. The strength I saw in Sarah was so inspiring. How could someone be this strong? How could she live life with so much strength? I don’t know how she could she tell me this story without completely losing it?

I will tell you how… her Cocker Spaniel named Daisy…

Again, emotions filled my body. This time, they were joyful tears that fled my eyes. Not only did I relate to Sarah with such a personal issue, but now I know that her pet was who she depended on during the most difficult time of her life. To see and to hear that, was eye opening for me.

What really stuck with me was when she said,

“American Service Pets it truly an amazing service. Daisy has been my rock for the last few years of my life. As I begin a new chapter in my life, it requires me to live and travel on my own. I can’t do this without Daisy. Without the package I purchased, traveling with Daisy would be a huge pain. Plus, knowing that I don’t have to pay an additional pet fee wherever I live is also so important. I am just starting my life as an adult, and saving money is huge.”

She paused and continued,

“Without Daisy, I don’t know how I could get through the nights when I am alone. She brings me so much comfort. She brings my anxiety levels down and I feel at peace.”

Wow, I mean just wow!

To work for a company that can change someone’s life is so rewarding. Meeting Sarah, validates that Emotional Support Animals are needed in this world. I personally have an ESA and I know the feeling of having the comfort of a pet – there is nothing in this world that can replace the love of an animal.

Sarah, I am forever grateful for meeting you and sharing stories. You are an inspiration to me and so many others. We will continue to fight for our rights when it comes to Emotional Support Animals – there are real individuals who need American Service Pets.
